Making quick and easy dinner recipes quicker and easierThis is a guest post from James Kim.

If you’re adjusting to a new diet like the Paleo diet, you probably have to get rid of eating habits you’ve had for years.

Let’s face it: people eat a lot of pasta, bread, and dairy products. Cutting these food products out, especially if you really enjoy eating them, can be tough. It can be even tougher to figure out how to prepare quick and easy dinner recipes for yourself that are consistently Paleo-friendly.

Fortunately, all you need to do is be strategic about it. Here are some strategies you can try as you start embracing the dietary habits of the Paleolithic era. [editor's note: These work just as well for the slow-carb diet too.]

1. Try to get everything you need to stick to the diet at the grocery store. This means you should buy lean meats, fruits and veggies, fish, nuts, etc. Figure out what you like that falls within the range of acceptable food items for the Paleo diet. Getting these ingredients and having them on hand at home will help prevent you from eating out and possibly falling of the wagon in terms of your diet.

2. Try eating game meat, if the thought of doing so doesn’t make you feel squeamish. You might get tired of eating regular old chicken, beef, and fish. Give your taste buds a jolt with different kinds of meat you may have never tried before like venison and bison. [ED: you can even get all hard core and do some elk hunting with an atlatl]

3. Look for some recipes online. The Paleo diet has quite the following these days, and a lot of people post Paleo-friendly recipes on the internet. If you don’t want to spend much time in the kitchen, look for recipes with a short cooking time and a limited list of ingredients. There are plenty of options out there. Don’t be afraid to try something new!

4. Consider investing in both a crock pot and a wok. Both of these appliances will make cooking easier. You can make delicious meat and vegetable stews in a crock-pot with little effort. All you have to do is toss some ingredients in before you leave for work. When you get home, you’re stew will be ready to eat. You can make meat and veggie stir-fries in a wok in 30 minutes or less.

5. Don’t let the dishes pile up. If you’re committed to your new diet, you’ll probably find yourself cooking at home a lot more frequently. The tips above will help you do so. But what about all those dishes? If you let them pile up, washing a lot of them all at once can be a lot of work. So, rinse off your dishes after every meal and toss them in the dishwasher. A little extra effort every day will save you a lot of effort later on.

Cooking for yourself and eating a proper diet don’t have to be unpleasant. You have so many delicious meal options to try out that you’ll find a Paleo diet is actually a very exciting addition to your life.

What is your favorite tip for making quick and easy meals on a slow-carb or paleo diet?

I wanted to quickly point out the link James asked me to mention. Food on the Table looks like a really slick site to help automate your diet. I’m going to be checking it out in depth and give a review of it here.
